CONFERENCES AND EXHIBITION

Hydropower & Dams takes an active role in the profession it is serving by organizing major international conferences on hydropower. These well respected events bring together the world's leading experts on technical, economic, financial, environmental and social aspects of hydropower development.

Each conference is accompanied by a Technical Exhibition, where powerplant owners, consultants and manufacturers present the state-of-the-art of hydropower technology, research and specialized consultancy services.

In recent years, attendance has averaged 650 participants from about 70 countries, making these the largest international events hosted in Europe.

Technical sessions of the conference focus on the most important topics affecting the hydro industry. Typical conference themes include: Making hydro more competitive in changing market conditions; Best practice in planning and development; Hydropower potential and development plans; Environmental and social aspects; Powerplant uprating and refurbishment; Improving efficiency and economics; Pumped storage; Operation and maintenance; and, Project financing.

Past events have taken place in: Budapest (1994), Barcelona (1995), Lausanne (1996), Portoroz (1997), Aix en Provence (1998), Gmunden (1999), Bern (2000), Riva del Garda (2001), Kiris (2002), Dubrovnik (2003), Porto (2004), Porto Carras (2006) and Granada (2007). All have attracted high level delegations from the countries in the world with active hydropower development programmes.

Venues are carefully chosen to provide opportunities to visit sites of technical interest in the host country, and also to provide a pleasant environment as a background to the technical and social programmes.
