Hoang Trung Hai, who gave an opening address, and officially inaugurated the ASIA 2008 Symposium. ![]() Le Huu Ti, Chief of the Sustainable Development and Water Resources Section of UNESCAP, who spoke of sustainable water infrastructure for the Asia Pacific region. ![]() Dr Lam Du Son, Vice President of EVN, describing his country's hydropower development programme. ![]() Prof Luis Berga, ICOLD President, who spoke of water infrastructure for sustainable development; he also chaired the session on flood risk. ![]() Peter Lee, President of ICID, gave a keynote on objectives for irrigated agriculture, and co-chaired the session on water resources. ![]() David Williams, CEO of the British Hydropower Association, chaired a session on rural electrification and mini hydro. He also hosted a networking session focusing on British experience in renewable energy development. ![]() Xaypaseuth Phomsoupha of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Lao PDR, who described hydro development in his country, and Nguyen Duc Lien of the Mekong River Commission, speaking of hydro in the Lower Mekong Basin, in Session 1. ![]() F. Lempérière of France (left) who spoke of the potential of large tidal storage basins, and S. Alam, also of France, who gave a keynote lecture on managing sedimentation. They co-chaired a session on optimizing hydro plant design and operation. ![]() Dr Andy Hughes of Atkins, UK (former ICOLD Vice President), gave a keynote address on floods, and co-chaired a session on civil engineering challenges. ![]() Prof Pham Hong Giang, President of VNCOLD, and Former Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who gave a keynote overview of water resources and dam development in Vietnam. ![]() Dr Jia Jinsheng, who headed the Chinese delegation, and co-chaired a session on materials for dams.
