A full social and cultural programme is being arranged for delegates and accompanying persons.

Cultural Excursion

Monday 1 April

The Cultural Excursion will combine a detailed sightseeing tour of the city centre, with a visit to Katutura township.

The tour will set off from the Congress Centre in the late morning. Visits will include historical buildings, monuments and museums within Windhoek, Christus Church, Tintenpalast (the House of Parliament),
Alte Fest (the Old Fort) and Heinitzburg Castle. Delegates will have a panoramic view of Windhoek from Lover’s Hill and will then visit the Namibian Craft Centre. After lunch together at a local restaurant, the group will visit Katutura, Windhoek’s black township, and will walk along Eveline Street before reaching the tranquility of Penduka, where women produce and sell beautiful Namibian handicrafts on the shore of Goreangab dam.

Chairpersons' and speakers' reception

Monday 1 April

The reception for speakers and chairpersons will be held, as usual, at the conference venue, on the evening before the conference begins. This will be on a terrace of the Safari hotel, and will include a light supper.

Welcome reception

Tuesday 2 April

The AFRICA 2019 Welcome Reception will be held at the poolside area, in the gardens of Safari Court hotel; after apéritifs, a buffet supper will be served, and entertainment is being organized.

Farewell gala dinner

Thursday 4 April

The Farewell Gala Dinner will be held in the ballroom and gardens of the elegant Country Club in Windhoek, located close to the city centre. After a welcome cocktail, there will be musical entertainment and a buffet dinner with a chance to taste local specialities.

Conference Programme

AFRICA 2019 will be the third international conference focusing on water storage and renewable energy development in Africa, co-hosted by Aqua~Media International and the International Commission on Large Dams.

The two main utilities, NamWater and NamPower, welcome international experts to come and exchange experience on key topics relating to water storage and renewable energy. Namibia has experienced a period of exceptional growth and economic stability (IMF Annual Report 2017), making it a prime destination for investments in the hydro sector.

Tuesday 2 April

Opening ceremony, technical sessions begin and evening Welcome reception.


Wednesday 3 April

Technical sessions continue and extended opening of the Exhibition.


Thursday 4 April

Technical sessions continue, closing ceremony and Farewell Dinner.
