Adding renewables to hydro: Practical benefits in Southeast Asia

This paper presents a practical overview of the hybridization potential of hydropower dams with variable renewables in Southeast Asia based on in-field data from wind, solar and hydro projects in the region. A first case looks at nation-wide applications, with the example of Myanmar, while a second case shows the application at the level of a hydropower plant, with a mock-up hydropower plant localized in the south of Laos to be linked with renewables such as wind or solar.
