Bambakary dam: developing water resources in northern Burkina Faso

In 2005, the Government of Burkina Faso adopted a national strategy for irrigated agriculture development, aiming to increase and sustain agricultural production and diversification, and to modernise rural areas of the country. The strategy is a holistic approach to institutional and regulatory measures, investment in the development of the irrigated areas, and the development of extension services. Bambakary is one of the on-going projects within this framework, currently being developed in the north of the country.
