Bolivia’s hydropower development plan to 2025

With the Misicuni and San Jose 1 hydro projects completed, Bolivia is continuing with the implementation of San Jose 2, Miguillas and Ivirizu, all of which are under construction, while the Rositas scheme is moving ahead. This article reviews the current situation, including plans to double the present hydro installed capacity by 2022, as part of the national strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s generation mix, and to produce enough electricity to meet national demand and to export surplus power.
