Environmental impact assessment of small hydro: Case study from Turkey

A multi-criteria scoring tool is used to assess the environmental impacts of small hydropower plants. The proposed tool is applied to a scheme that is in operation in the Filyos river basin in north-western Turkey. The discharge and suspended sediment data of the river, and the design characteristics of the plant, are evaluated for their environmental impact. Lessons learned from these case studies are presented.
