Hydraulic modelling of sediment and fish egg passage at Jirau, Brazil

The scale physical model used for the 3750 MW Jirau run-of-river project is described, and the flow conditions, sediment transport and fish and fish egg movement patterns in natural conditions are reported. The hydraulic model allows simulation of debris transport and provides an opportunity to optimize an efficient debris removal system. Results indicate that sand transport and fish and fish egg migration through the project area will continue unhindered.
