The Nam Theun 2 regulating dam, on the Nam Khatang riverbed, is used to regulate the water discharged from the powerhouse towards the downstream channel and to maintain the natural flow of the Nam Khatang river. After the 2011 flood events, an update of the hydrology studies of the Nam Khatang river was carried out leading to the construction of an additional spillway.
