Ludvika benefits from new technology after a century of service

The Ludvika hydro plant is a classic example of how reliable and durable hydropower can be. After more than 100 years of operation, the turbine, generator and electrical equipment have been refurbished, to bring the plant in line with safety and environmental requirements, and to increase annual energy production by nearly 30 per cent. The challenge was to install the new equipment in the original powerhouse, which is registered as a historical building.
