Measures to improve fish survival in axial turbines

During the turbine design phase there are several parameters that can be chosen to increase fish survival probability. Another approach to enhance the environmental aspect of modern turbines is to limit or eliminate downstream contamination caused by pollutants, such as lubricants and oil. Some of the latest reasearch approaches are reported and several mechanisms to mitigate fish injury and fatality are presented. One of these, an oil-free hub design concept for double regulated machines, is reported in detail.
