Mutriku: a major step forward for wave power generation

For several years, ocean energies, (wave and tidal current power), have gradually been developing from an innovative idea towards a respected form of new and innovative hydro. In the spring of 2010, the oscillating water column technology of Wavegen is being installed at the world’s first commercial OWC plant in Mutriku, Spain. A new build breakwater is modified such that in does not only protect the harbour from the waves, but also converts the incident wave power into electricity to be fed into the local grid.
