New auxiliary spillway for Folsom dam, California

To provide a higher level of flood protection for Sacramento, by allowing earlier and larger releases during a flood event, a large auxiliary spillway is under construction at the Folsom dam in California, USA. Design of the project, including elaborate hydraulic physical modelling, and structural, materials and geotechnical aspects of the design and construction are described here.
