Progress at the Jinping I and II hydro projects in China

The Jinping I hydropower project, on the lower reach of the Yalong river, is one of a number of large-scale hydro projects under construction in China. With the single function to produce power and an installed capacity of 3600 MW, the project is best known for its 305 m-high arch dam. This will be the highest arch dam in the world when complete in 2014. The Ertan Hydropower Development Company, Ltd (EHDC), owner of the project, is responsible for construction management. An overview of the project, including technical and environmental issues and construction progress, are presented in this paper.
