Securing long-term commercial operation through adequate O&M in Sub-Saharan Africa

To improve O&M at hydropower plants in the context of SSA countries and to promote best practices, a recent World Bank review, presented here, has explored ways to improve the quality of O&M and strengthen O&M capacity by evaluating the main three models enforced in the region: O&M in the hands of the owner or the concessionaire; O&M responsibility totally or partially transferred to a private or semi-private operator; and, O&M responsibility temporarily entrusted to the EPC contractor at the end of an EPC contract.
