The biology of Mekong fish species and their application to fish pass design

In recent years there has been a surge in hydropower development in Lao PDR. The country intends to become one of the major power producers of Southeast Asia in the near future. By the end of 2015, more than 3000 MW of hydro capacity had been commissioned in the country, and nearly the same amount was under construction. The technically exploitable capacity in Lao amounts to a total of 18 000 MW, the majority on the Mekong river and its tributaries [DEB, 20141].
