Bookings are arriving constantly for HYDR0 2018 from all parts of the world (more than 65 nations so far). By mid-September, high-level representatives of ministries or national utilities from more than 40 nations had confirmed attendance. These nations include the main hydro developers of the world, such as China, Laos, Bhutan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan, Canada, Peru, Australia, Portugal, Iceland, France, Switzerland, Norway, Ukraine and more.
Other delegations attending are from nations with major programmes of refurbishment ahead, notably Afghanistan, Iraq and Liberia.
The financial community will also be well represented, with some national banks, private investors, and the World Bank, as well as USAID.
As the leading article in Issue 5 of Hydropower & Dams, and several conference presentations will show, it is an ideal time to be locating HYDRO 2018 in Central Europe. Plans are taking off to link waterways in the region, which will offer new opportunities for run-of-river hydropower; future developments could benefit Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ukraine and Romania.
As usual, a varied programme will be on offer in Gdansk, focusing on advancing hydropower programmes in the less developed countries, trans-boundary collaboration, development opportunities worldwide, environmental and social issues, hydro and pumped-storage technology, the safety of dams and powerplants, multipurpose schemes, financial and contractual topics, climate resilience and flood management.
A large technical exhibition will run alongside the conference, where lunches and refreshments will be served each day, and a networking party will be held on 16 October. Some exhibition spaces are still available, and interested companies should contact our sales team as soon as possible.
Post-conference tours will showcase Poland’s major pumped-storage schemes, a small hydro cascade development, large classical hydro schemes, and flood protection works, as well as a number of touristic sites.
Throughout the conference and tours, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the best of Polish cuisine and culture, some touristic excursions, social events, and a short classical concert before the farewell dinner.
If you are involved in hydropower, as an owner, operator, planner, researcher, consultant, supplier, adviser, teacher or student, you should not miss joining this practical international forum. It represents a unique opportunity to mix with colleagues from so many parts of the world.
Accommodation availability is beginning to be limited at some of the hotels in Gdansk, and study tour places are filling, so if you plan to attend, we encourage you to register at your earliest convenience. Delegates requiring assistance with visa applications should request this as soon as possible.
Please be aware that people in our industry have been contacted offering to purchase delegate lists for HYDRO 2018. We would like to reassure you that this is a scam, which has also been used with other leading industry events. We do not divulge delegate information to third parties, nor do we provide information about our delegates without their explicit prior permission. We would urge you not to give out credit card details or other information to anyone contacting you offering to sell details of attendees to our events.
It has been brought to our attention that scam accommodation bureaux have been approaching exhibiting companies and members of the hydro industry claiming to represent the HYDRO 2018 conference and offering discounted accommodation in Gdansk, Poland. Please be aware that these companies have no affiliation with us, and we would urge you not to give credit card or personal details to anyone offering to book accommodation for you. The only way to book accommodation through us is by registering, through the online registration process, or, if you have already registered online, by contacting ASK Event Management. ASK Event Management will not approach you to try and sell accommodation.
HYDRO 2018 will be held in Gdansk, Poland. Technical sessions, bringing together experts from across the world, will be held on issues currently faced by the international hydropower and dams community.
The Polish utility Energa is planning a new cascade development on the Vistula river, and plans are also taking shape for a major new trinational inland navigation scheme, which could pave the way for new low-head run-of-river hydro schemes to move ahead. Poland is an ideal meeting point in central Europe, improving access for many of its neighbouring countries, who will join the regular attendees from the world hydropower community.
