KenGen seeks butterfly valves for Sagana

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), Kenya’s state power producer, invites sealed bids by 13 March from eligible candidates for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of butterfly valves at the Sagana hydropower station. The Sagana hydropower plant is located near Nyeri town approximately 170 km from Nairobi and comprises three horizontally mounted turbine generators with ratings of 500 kW each, totalling 1500 kW. The plant was commissioned in 1956 and utilizes water from Mount Kenya on river Sagana. The plant is in good operational condition, though the inlet valves is manually operated and has aged, causing machine overspeeding as a result of the slow closing operation. The Inlet valves require rehabilitation to ensure optimal availability.

The scope of work will include: (a) Design; (b) Supply (Transportation to site) of new butterfly valves and associated equipment and controls Supply; (c) Dismantling of existing manual butterfly valves systems and accessories; (d) Installation of new butterfly valves and associated equipment and controls, and (e) Testing and commissioning. The scope of contract also includes the preparation of operation and maintenance manuals; training of employer’s operating and maintenance staff; the supply of spare parts required for operation and maintenance, the supply of maintenance tools and equipment; field guarantee tests and obligations in the 12-month guarantee period. The tenderer shall submit along with the tender bid a comprehensive [summary] work programme, showing all the activities and duration required, from tender award stage to full supply of the equipment. The contractors shall corroborate with others executing other works for smooth interfacing as necessary.

Tendering will be conducted under open competitive method to open international standards using a standardized tender document. Tendering is open to all qualified and interested tenderers.
