Liberia’s RREA issues procurement notice for Gbedin Falls

Bidding documents are expected to be available from this March for the related construction, equipment supply and consultancy contracts, which will also include the electrification of communities in proximity to the existing distribution network and capacity building for hydropower plant development and management, according to the notice published on 18 February.

Liberia’s Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) has issued a general procurement notice for the construction of the 9.34 MW Gbedin Falls hydropower plant and associated distribution system infrastructure.

The development of Gbedin Falls run-of-river plant on the St John river in Nimba County in northeastern Liberia, and associated technical assistance activities are being undertaken by the RREA as part of the Renewable Energy for Electrification of Liberia (REEL) project, with loan and grant financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the African Development Fund (ADF), Scaling up Renewable Energy Program (SREP) and Transitional Support Facility (TSF) Pillar I.

The project will comprise three components. Component A covers all civil and construction works and supply and installation of powerplant and distribution network equipment. Component B is for consultancy services for design, preparation of bidding documents, tendering and supervision of construction works. Component C will include consultancy services to undertake hydrological data collection and analysis, climate change mitigation and adaptation. Interested bidders are invited to confirm their interest in participating by contacting the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency.
