The objective of the EOI is to identify capable firms who will later be invited to submit detailed proposals or bids (RFP) for the assignment. WUC’s procurement process provides an opportunity to explore the use of its existing dam infrastructure for renewable energy generation while supporting the corporation’s broader sustainability objectives.
Details on the proposed generating capacity, specific dam locations, implementation timelines and investment requirements have not been provided in the information released as part of the announcement. Those details could be clarified as the procurement process advances and potential projects move through subsequent stages. Further developments will depend on the outcome of the EOI process and any subsequent procurement stages initiated by WUC.
WUC tendered a feasibility study for floating solar on its dams in 2024. At the time, it held site visits to its Gaborone and Bokaa dams, Lotsane dam and Letsibogo and Dikgatlhong dams, all located within the eastern part of the country. The Dikgatlhong and Gaborone dams are the two largest in Botswana.
