Bids sought for new fish friendly run-of-river plant in Aarau, Switzerland

Eniwa Kraftwerk AG, the multi-utility serving Switzerland’s northwestern canton of Aarau, invites bids by 4 May 2020 for the supply, installation and commissioning of a turbine for a new fish friendly run-of-river plant at the Schönenwerd weir on the river Aare.

The contract is to be carried out as part of the overall renewal of the Aarau run-of-river complex, involving initially the construction of a new run-of-river plant at the beginning of the upper water channel in the Schönenwerd area, and the bypass channel in Schönenwerder Schächen.

It is scheduled to be put into operation before the main powerplant renewal programme begins. The Schönenwerd plant is designed to make efficient use of the new residual water regime, which came into force on 1 January 2020, and which requires the doubling of residual water flow from 10 to 20 m³/s, seasonally graded from 15/20/25 m³/s.

The contract will require the delivery, assembly and commissioning of a vertical, double regulated, Francis type turbine with direct drive, according to a tender notice published on the EU’s procurement website TED. The turbine is required to have a nominal power of 950 kW, with an impeller diameter of approximately 2150 mm, to generate under a nominal net head of 4.25 m, with nominal water flow of 25 m3/s. The turbine should have a nominal speed of 176.5 rpm (alternatively 166.6 or 187.5 rpm); the generator should have an identical nominal speed. The contract is scheduled to start on 17 July 2020 and be completed on 31 December 2022, according to the notice.

Access to the procurement documents is restricted. The full tender notice can be viewed at ted.europa.eu.
