Optimal maintenance can be defined as the continuous optimization of expenditure for preventive maintenance, including possible refurbishment, modernization or upgrading versus the cost of corrective maintenance including loss of production because of unplanned outages. The failure model and life curve defined by the optimal maintenance toolbox provides a practical framework for optimizing preventive maintenance, including decisions regarding investments for refurbishment, modernization and upgrading. A software approach to support appropriate hydro maintenance is described here.
