Artificial Intelligence and digitalization: A new chapter for hydropower in Latin America

In the light of the problem of aging hydropower infrastructure in Latin America, this paper, based on information and comments from A. Alarcón of the Inter-American Development Bank, and input from A-M, Andrei of HydroGrid, Austria, describes how their organizations are together piloting AI-driven optimization to modernize hydro plants, with examples discussed in Honduras and Costa Rica. In view of the economy of upgrading existing assets, this is key to future hydro development in the region.
