Behaviour and treatment of Campos Novos dam during second impounding

This paper describes the treatment of the concrete face of Campos Novos dam, in Brazil, which was damaged during first filling of the reservoir as a result of compression stress produced by longitudinal movement in the dam axis. The differentiated behaviour of the dam in the first and the second filling is discussed mainly to the pre stress state of rockfill.
