A new model for dual control criterion on deformation and deformation coordination for extra-high CFRDs

For the safe construction of concrete faced rockfill dams (CFRDs) with heights of around 300 m, the mechanism of face slab rupture needs to be studied, with lessons learnt from smaller CFRDs with heights of around 200 m. Here, a dam deformation prediction model is proposed with comprehensive considerations on the factors of criteria of rockfill compaction, deformation caused by reservoir impounding, impact of creep deformation of rockfill, and so on. Based on the deformation prediction and the concept of deformation coordination, a dual control criterion on deformation control and deformation coordination for extra-high CFRDs is proposed.
