Carbon markets around the world and the role of hydropower

The author focuses on climate change mitigation, in particular carbon finance associated with hydropower, from the perspective of a private sector utility. First an overview is presented of existing and planned carbon markets, and then the clean development mechanism (CDM) process is reviewed. An analysis of the role of hydropower in carbon markets, demonstrates how this renewable technology can help solve this climate change issue.
