Progressive erosion of a plunge pool can undermine the safety of a dam and the associated power generating facilities. The authors review various approaches which have been used over the years to calculate plunge pool scour, and discuss how this past research has been taken into account in the feasibility study for the spillway of the Dasu dam, to be constructed in Pakistan.
