Dam safety and operational efficiency improvements in Sri Lanka

With its long history of dam construction, Sri Lanka now inevitably faces the challenge of ensuring that ageing dams meet current standards for safety and efficiency. A comprehensive project has been implemented by the Government to assess the status of the older structures, and implement any necessary upgrades. The approach to this project, examples of some specific remedial actions, and the overall benefits to the various stakeholders, are described here.
