Determining the optimum capacities for the Maguga expansion and Lower Maguga hydro scheme

As part of the Eswatini Electricity Company’s plans to increase national installed capacity, to meet increasing demands for industrial, commercial and domestic demand, and to decrease dependence on imports, three new potential hydro stations have been investigated at the Maguga dam and downstream of the dam: the Maguga expansion, the Lower Maguga project and a mini hydro scheme at the Lower Maguga regulation weir. This paper describes hydrological, financial, geotechnical and environmental and social impact studies car-ried out to assess the optimum scheme capacity for each site.
