Digital twin-enhanced BIM for intelligent lifecycle management in hydropower engineering

Lifecycle management is a multidisciplinary challenge in hydropower engineering. Although building information modelling (BIM) has emerged as a standardized framework for digital representation, challenges related to semantic inter-operability and domain-specific knowledge representation still persist. This paper begins with a literature review to provide a technical foundation for enhancing BIM capabilities and integrating them with the digital twin paradigm. The results offer strategic guidelines for leveraging digital twin-oriented intelligent systems to optimize BIM implementation and enhance information sharing across various phases of project management, including engineering design, construction management, as well as operations and maintenance.
