Environmental flow for sustainable power generation at Yeywa, Myanmar

Traditional management of hydro reservoirs commonly leads to significant changes in the natural flow regime downstream of hydro plants. It is thus very important, in the operation of a hydro system, to consider environmental flow requirements. A reservoir operation simulation study has been carried out to analyse the impact of alternative scenarios of the system operation on energy production and natural flow regime downstream of the Yeywa reservoir in Myanmar. The analysis showed that the hydro plant operation could be improved with increased energy production, while maintaining the environmental flow requirements for the downstream ecosystem
