Flow-induced vibration effects on reservoir spillways

The effects of flow-induced vibrations on reservoir spillways are not very well understood or addressed in current design practice. This paper aims to raise awareness of their nature and potential impact on the safety and durability of these structures. A review of some of the previous research and publications on this subject is provided. The paper outlines the structural response to such vibrations, and possible mitigation measures. A method for their consideration in the design of spillway structures is also suggested.
