Maintaining reliable marine energy structures under heavy ice conditions in Russia

Severe ice conditions present a major challenge for the design and construction of tidal power schemes along the Russian Arctic coast, and therefore intense research is undertaken to assess ice conditions, and the behaviour of large blocks of ice. Attention focuses particularly on the regions where tidal powerplants are currently planned, in the Barents Sea, the White Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk.
