Prospects for additional hydropower generation in Venezuela

Venezuela’s electrical power generating plants, transmission and distribution infrastructure suffer from a lack of investment and inadequate maintenance, which has caused a decrease in electrical generation. Government rationing plans and maintenance have so far failed to improve the situation. However, after existing schemes have been refurbished, it should be planned for additional generating capacity to come on line. This article explores the options to bring additional capacity on line in the country.
