Refurbishment of the turbines at Chief Joseph, USA

This paper describes the upgrading of 16 turbines at Chief Joseph by the replacement of key hydraulic components, to optimize the level of performance based on modern designs. The hydraulic development process and model test results obtained after changing the various components are outlined. Prototype manufacture and installation of the modified components are briefly described, and performance results and observations made at site after the rehabilitation are discussed.
