Renewal of anti-corrosion protection at the Wehr scheme in Germany

After an operating life of 30 years, the corrosion protection of the penstocks at the Wehr pumped-storage plant needed to be replaced. This paper describes the process, and the various complexities which included eliminating risks associated with removal of the original coating; covering a large area with the new product within a short time; and intense quality control measures.
