Synchronous machine control in variable speed operation

The design requirements for synchronous machine operation include the variable speed regime. In hydropower units that use compensation operation, it is necessary in some cases to use motor starting. In pumped-storage plants, to increase turbine efficiency, continuous operation in a variable speed regime should be considered. There are various methods for synchronous machine motor starting, each with advantages and disadvantages. This paper presents a new control system based on non-linear observers and the feedback linearization method.
