Technical progress on high CFRDs in China

In recent years, concrete faced rockfill dams, a popular and competitive dam type, have been developed at a vigorous pace in China. New technologies have laid the foundations for the success of 200 m-high CFRDs in China, as well as feasibility studies for the construction of 250 to 300 m-high structures. The general development status of high CFRDs in China is discussed in this paper and new methods are proposed by the authors on deformation compatibility design, dynamic stable waterstop design and leakage detection, identification and evaluation for high CFRDs, together with case studies, are described.
