The role of dams in increasing water supplies for Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast

In the absence of underground water of the necessary quality for water supply in the Central and southern areas of Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast, dams will have an important role to play in increasing drinking water supplies. This article presents the current situation, and discusses various dam projects and water purification schemes which could help to avoid problems of future water shortages. This is important not only for the local population, but also for tourism in the coastal area.
