Aya pumped-storage scheme to go ahead in the Philippines

First Gen Hydro Power Corp of the Philippines announced plans in January to move ahead with the implementation of the 120 MW Aya pumped-storage scheme, on the Island of Luzon.

The plant will be equipped with two 60 MW reversible units, and will provide valuable service in regulating the grid, allowing for the commissioning of more intermittent renewables, particularly wind and solar schemes.

This will be the country’s second pumped-storage development, after the 728 MW Kalayaan I and II complex. The country has 921 MW of solar PV installed, and 427 MW of wind power.
