Bids invited to modernize Porąbka–Żar upper reservoir

PGE Energia Odnawialna, the renewable energy arm of Poland’s largest power producer Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), invites bids by 31 May from general contractors for the modernization of the upper reservoir of the 544 MW Porąbka–Żar pumped-storage plant in Silesia in southern Poland. Commissioned in 1979, Porąbka-Żar in Międzybrodzie Bialskie, within the Soła river Cascade, is the second largest pumped storage power plant in Poland and its only underground power plant.

The project will require the modernization of the water intake, derivative pipelines, a drainage adit, the impact chamber and the bottom outlet. The scope of contract includes all construction works, post-assembly tests and start-up, and other work and activities related to the implementation of the task, according to a tender notice published on the EU’s procurement website on 16 April.
