Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEBL), which serves the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, has launched separate tenders to procure civil and hydro-mechanical works for the 15 MW Sai Kothi I and 18 MW Sai Kothi-II hydropower projects. Expressions of Interest or pre-qualification bids are invited for the two contracts by 12 May from interested contractors participating as a single entity with sufficient experience and expertise, for shortlisting/qualification for submission of technical and financial bids in the second stage of bidding. The contracts for the 15 MW Sai Kothi I and 18 MW Sai Kothi-II hydropower projects have estimated values of INR 1.5 billion (US$ 16.1 million) and INR 1.4 billion (US$ 15 million), respectively. Both contracts are to be completed within 48 months of contract award.
HPSEBL is developing greenfield hydropower projects within the framework of the “Hydropower in the Himalaya – Phase I” programme with the support of Germany’s KfW Development Bank.
The Sai Kothi I project has been contemplated as a run-of-river scheme on the Baira river, a tributary of the Suil river and sub-tributary of the river Ravi, in the Tissa region of Chamba District in the Western Himalayas. The Sai Kothi I project envisages harnessing a gross head of 78.15 m for the generation of 15 MW of power in a surface powerhouse located on the right bank of the Baira Nallah. The Sai Kothi-II project is an upstream development of the 180 MW Baira-Suil station, and an immediate downstream development of the proposed 15 MW Sai Kothi-I project. The project envisages generating using silt free water from the Sai Kothi I project located on the Baira Nallah, harnessing a gross head of 95.15m.
