KenGen seeks instrumentation upgrade of Turkwel dam

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), Kenya's state power producer, invites sealed bids by 28 July from eligible candidates to upgrade the instrumentation of the Turkwel hydroelectric dam on the river Turkwel on the border of the western counties of Turkana and West Pokot.

Its double curvature arch dam is the country’s highest, standing 150 m high with a crest length of 165 m. It impounds a reservoir with a maximum storage capacity of 1.64 x 106 m3.The multipurpose scheme, which also comprises a downstream 106 MW power plant, was commissioned in 1991.

A mandatory site visit is to be held on 12 July 2023 at the Turkwel Dam starting at 10.00 a.m.
