KenGen seeks instrumentation upgrade of Turkwel dam

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), Kenya's state power producer, invites sealed bids by 28 July from eligible candidates to upgrade the instrumentation of the Turkwel hydroelectric dam on the river Turkwel on the border of the western counties of Turkana and West Pokot.

Its double curvature arch dam is the country’s highest, standing 150 m high with a crest length of 165 m. It impounds a reservoir with a maximum storage capacity of 1.64 x 106 m3.The multipurpose scheme, which also comprises a downstream 106 MW power plant, was commissioned in 1991.

Tender documents may be viewed and downloaded for free from the company website at www.kengen.co.ke. Tenderers who download the tender document must forward their contact details immediately to tenders@kengen.co.ke to facilitate any further clarification or addendum. A mandatory site visit is to be held on 12 July 2023 at the Turkwel Dam starting at 10.00 a.m.

Consulting services sought for Kakono project in Tanzania

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) invites expressions of interest by 21 July for consultancy services for construction supervision and management of the 87.8 MW Kakono hydropower plant in the northwestern region of Kagera.

Constructive international networking characterizes  AFRICA 2023, Uganda

Nearly 500 delegates representing 54 nations met beside Lake Victoria, Uganda, from 10 to 12 July, for AFRICA 2023 - the Fourth International Conference and Exhibition on Water Storage and Hydropower Development for Africa. Of the 54 nations represented, 30 were African, and as the conference closed, feedback suggested that this was the most constructive gathering to date for hydropower development in Africa, in terms of new contacts being made, and practical issues being addressed.
