Preliminary market consultation for Holtavirkjun hydro project in Iceland

Landsvirkjun, Iceland’s state power producer, invites interested parties with relevant experience to participate in a Preliminary Market Consultation process for the planning design of the Holtavirkjun hydropower project on the Lower Thjorsa in the southern part of Iceland. Landsvirkjun intends to issue an Invitation to Tender (ITT) by March 2026 for planning design works to progress project development, according to a tender notice published on the EU’s procurement platform on 24 February.

Three additional consultancy scopes are intended to be tendered in the future to support the development and construction of the project, including: Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Tender Design and Detailed Design (combined scope), and Supervision of Construction Works (Owner’s Engineer).

Spain evaluates 3.2 GWh pumped-storage project in Tenerife

Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) is studying a proposal for a new pumped-storage hydro plant on the island of Tenerife. The project in the municipality of Güímar, in the eastern part of the island, one of the Canary Islands, would entail an investment of over €1 billion (US$ 1.18 billion), the ministry announced on 26 February.

Malawi’s state-owned power producer, EGENCO, invites expressions of interest by 30 March from qualified consultants to supervise the rehabilitation and modernization works at the 64 MW Kapichira I hydropower plant.
