Prequalification applications sought for small hydro projects

KTDA Power Company (KTPC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), the country’s largest tea management agency, seeks to prequalify eligible EPC contractors, electrical contractors and electromechanical manufacturers and suppliers for a series of small hydropower plants.

The power generated will be exported to the shareholder’s tea processing factories and the grid under already signed PPAs. The projects range in capacity from 0.5 MW to 10 MW and are at various stages of development, with four plants already operational, seven under construction and another ten under implementation, according to the tender notice. Prequalification applications are invited by 30 March for five separate contracts: (1) KTDA/027/2021 Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors for the construction of small hydropower projects; (2) KTDA/032/2021 Electromechanical equipment manufacturers for design, manufacture, supply, delivery to site, installation, testing, commissioning and provision of after-sales technical support services of electromechanical equipment for KTDA small hydropower projects; (3) KTDA/026/2021 Electrical contractors for preliminary design and modelling for 33 kV TL Network to factories and KPLC grid; (4) KTDA/028/2021 Electrical contractors for design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of grid and factory interconnection facility, medium and low voltage switchgear, construction of step down/up substations and medium voltage transmission line for small hydropower projects and (5) KTDA/041/2021 Request for proposals (RFP) for the provision of Plant Remote Access, monitoring and OMM technical support services ERP system for hydropower plants managed by KTDA Power.
