Bids are invited by 15 October for complete upgrades to the plant’s two horizontal bulb turbines and generators, modernization of its electrical and control systems and auxiliary installations, as well as installation of a modern SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system for real-time monitoring and dispatch integration, according to a tender notice published on 27 August on the EU’s procurement platform. The works include the replacement of the turbine rotors, rotor chambers, turbine control systems and the auxiliary installations as well as a full replacement of the generators with completely new static excitation systems and auxiliary generator installations.
Originally commissioned between 1993 and 1994, the facility’s underlying engineering dates back to the 1980s. The contract covers a complete overhaul to align the station with modern safety, environmental, and efficiency standards. The refurbishment of the Centrala Hidroelectrică Gogoșu (CHE Gogoșu) is also required to enable to enable its integration into a unitary system of automation and control with the Iron Gates I and Iron II plants. Located in the southwestern county of Mehedinți, Centrala Hidroelectrică Gogoșu functions as a critical secondary branch of the Iron Gates II (Porțile de Fier II) hydropower facility. The plant is equipped with two horizontal bulb turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 28 MW, that were originally supplied by Romania’s UCM Reșița. The facility generates average annual output of about 308 GWh, operating with a low gross head of 7.5 meters.
The contract, estimated at roughly €158.55 million (excluding VAT), will be awarded as a turnkey contract, and is to be implemented within 54 months, according to the tender notice.
