Adaptability of slab joint waterstops to very high CFRDs

It has been demonstrated at 200 m-high CFRDs that slab joint waterstops of both the sealant filler type and cohesionless filler type have quite satisfatory results. The sealant filler type joint at Zipingpu CFRD behaved extremely well during the Wenchuan Earthquake of 2008. Moreover, the conservative Chinese design method of joint waterstop, being semi-empirical and semi-theoretical, has been proved to be suitable in practice. Waterstop experiments have been carried out at 300 m-high CFRDs, which have shown good performance of a well designed copper strip, corrugated rubber waterstop and GB plastic filler under the load of a 300 m head.
