Challenges in using decommissioned mine pits for pumped storage: A Greek example

This paper will present some of the unique technical aspects that can arise when repurposing disused mine pits for the development of pumped-storage plants. Two Greek case studies are described here, underlining both the benefits of the concept and the opportunities it offers compared with constructing the projects at natural sites. Design solutions adopted by the designer are presented.
