Construction of the Bakun dam: the world’s second highest CFRD

The 205 m-high Bakun concrete faced rockfill dam and 2400 MW powerplant is now nearing completion in Sarawak. This article describes the main features of the project, and in particular special measures which were taken to prevent rupture of the concrete face, in view of recent experience at some large CFRDs in other parts of the world.
