Concrete faced rockfill dams (CFRDs) are a popular choice of dam type and have become synonymous with rockfill dam solutions at a time when conventional earthen core rockfill dams (ECRDs) have become less popular. CFRDs have been built in many regions of the world including the USA, Europe, Australia, Latin America and Asia, with most being in Brazil and China. This paper reports on the development of the recent and planned schemes in India and highlights how their design has evolved and advanced in recent years.
